Pounding heart within your chest In silence running - doing your best Breathing hard on runner’s way Sunlight is soft as you start the day... |

Remember what it was like as a child to be pushed on the swings? It seemed as if you could fly right up into the sky, and that anything was possible! This poem is about a woman who runs every day and has been hit very hard by the storms of life. As she runs along the path, her mind travels back to when she was a little girl and it was a lot easier for her not to become cynical and live in despair. The past can haunt you if you let it.... |

Your eyes are determined to look straight ahead Your mind is thinking about what was said The pounding heart within your chest Hurts from sorrows and no rest
Who can know the pain you feel Hiding in your soul of steel Walls around you hide the tears And now you’re running from your fears … On runner’s way
The ground is pounding underneath your shoes And with every step, you will to choose To live in quiet desperation To deny the pain and the exasperation
… On runner’s way
And you don’t know that God can see The little girl inside you That once was free You don’t know the things revealed And that God can see what is concealed
The little girl within your mind And heart and soul will help you find The place of revealing Where you can find healing The place of memories long ago Before life’s storms took their toll.... And now as you travel on runner’s way To your mind will be revealed What God has to say:
In her mind she sees dark clouds drifting on a summer’s eve Forming a tapestry that the night sky weaves And a little girl stands alone - ‘neath the full moon’s light Being overshadowed by dark clouds on a lonely night
She walks through a park by the swings so still The breeze blows her hair and she cries until The tears bring the cold into her cheeks As she thinks of the past and the trying weeks
When no one would push her on a swing When no one would love her in spite of everything When no one could see the real person inside When she couldn’t explain the feelings she would hide
And now dark clouds cover the moon Over where she stands alone…
But then she sees the Ancient of Days come along Beside her Gently talking to her, and singing a song She sits in the swing and he pushes her up high Into the clouds, into the moon, into the air and he begins to say,
“Swing up and down, Swing up and away I see beauty in you in every way I see the moon smiling back at you tonight, As you laugh and swing in the moonlight You feel like you’re weightless and that you could fly As I push you again way up in the sky The clouds are all gone now that covered the moon The joy fills your heart as I sing you a tune The past doesn’t matter and it can’t pull you down You’re flying too high to listen to the sound -
Of words from the past that haunt your day Of thoughts that would hurt you –
… on runner’s way.”
…There is a girl on runner’s way Whose smile changes the sky to blue from gray There is a girl on runner’s way Who needs to hear something every day That she is precious, that she is wonderful, That she is loved and is a jewel, That on any night that she is sad, I will push her in the swing, in the moonlight, until she is glad
And she doesn’t need to run away From the past or memories or things people say And she can run and laugh and find joy each day And know that she is loved just the way she is – on runner’s way.
“For I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord, plans for good, and not for evil, plans to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

“...I am He, I am the first, I am also the last. Surely My hand founded the earth, and My right hand spread out the heavens; when I call to them, they stand together (at attention).” Isaiah 48:12b-13 “For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, but My lovingkindness will not be removed from you...” Isaiah 54:10a `”For thus says the high and exalted One who lives forever, whose name is holy, ‘I dwell on a high and holy place, and also with the contrite and lowly of spirit, in order to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.’” Isaiah 57:15 “Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 “Do not call to mind the former things, or ponder things of the past. Behold, I will do something new, now it will spring forth, will you not be aware of it?” Isaiah 43:18-19 “Even to your old age I will be the same, and even to your graying years I will bear you! I have done it, and I will carry you; and I will bear you and I will deliver you.” Isaiah 46:4

“I have not spoken in secret, in some dark land. ...I did not say, ‘Seek Me in a waste place,’ ‘I the Lord speak righteousness, declaring things that are upright.’” Isaiah 45:19 “O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name; for You have worked wonders, plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.” Isaiah 25:1 “A highway will be there, a roadway, and it will be called the Highway of Holiness. .. And the ransomed of the Lord will return, and come with joyful shouting... They will find gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.” Taken from Isaiah 35:8-10 “In repentance and rest you shall be saved, in quietness and trust is your strength.” Isaiah 30:15a “He, your Teacher will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will behold your Teacher. And your ears will hear a word behind you, ‘This is the way, walk in it..’” Isaiah 30:20b-21 |
